Undoubtedly               you've               seen               them:               lists               of               the               best               cities               for               vacations,               the               best               beaches               for               families,               the               cheapest               countries               to               visit.

Travel               best               and               worst               lists               are               standard               fare               in               the               travel               industry               and               every               travel               magazine               and               newspaper               has               its               own               take               on               the               optimal               vacation               spots.

Tucked               away               in               the               proverbial               corners               of               all               those               travel               best               and               worst               lists               are               some               bizarre               compilations,               including               Dirtiest               Hotels               for               2009,               Best               and               Worst               Airports               (for               Sleeping),               and               Worst               Airline               Public               Relations.
               Bizarre               Travel               List               #1:               Dirtiest               Hotels               List               for               2009
               Best               and               worst               hotel               lists               apparently               aren't               bizarre               enough               for               TripAdvisor.

So,TripAdvisor               compiles               a               Dirtiest               Hotel               list.

For               2009,               TripAdvisort               awarded               the               dubious               distinction               of               filthiest               flophouse               in               the               USA               to               the               Hotel               Carter               in               New               York               City.

This               cheap,               Times               Square               hotel               drew               complaints               of               bedbugs,               broken               windows,               a               lobby               bathroom               with               graffiti               reading               "If               you               want               an               STD,               stay               here,"               black               mold...

After               checking-in,               one               guest               reported               finding               blood               on               the               bed               and               unflushed               excrement               in               the               toilet               while               another               encountered               a               rat               in               the               hall               upon               approaching               her               room               and               a               collection               of               banana-eating               blood               suckers               inside               the               room's               waste               basket.
               Bizarre               Travel               List               #2:               Best               and               Worst               Airports               (for               Sleeping)               2008
               If               you               think               it's               bizarre               to               spend               the               night               in               an               airport,               you               haven't               been               keeping               up               with               cost-conscious               travelers.


               For               12               years               running,               the               Guide               to               Sleeping               in               Airports               hasn't               found               an               airport               to               sleep               in               that               outshines               Singapore's               Changi               Airport.

Changi               boasts               specially               designed               "snooze               chairs"               in               napping               lounges               as               well               as               showers,               a               swimming               pool,               and               spa               services.

Some               Guide               readers               suggest               that               sleeping               at               Changi               is               so               nice               that               visitors               to               Singapore               skip               the               hotel               altogether               and               spend               a               few               nights               at               the               airport.
               Paris'               Charles               de               Gaulle               Airport,               particularly               Terminal               1,               was               designated               the               worst               airport               for               sleeping.

De               Gaulle               was               criticized               for               uncomfortable               seating,               overflowing               toilets,               arrogant               staff,               gun-toting               gendarmes               disinclined               to               let               airport               visitors               sleep,               pervasive               smoke               and               -               get               this-               homeless               people!

Travelers               trying               to               skimp               on               their               hotel               costs               by               bunking               in               an               airport               have               the               nerve               to               criticize               homeless               locals               who               have               nowhere               else               to               go               simply               for               being               in               the               airport?

Who's               calling               who               arrogant               here?
               Bizarre               Travel               List               #3:               Worst               Airline               Public               Relations               Ever
               This               bizarre               travel               list               contains               but               1               entry.

In               designating               Ryan               Air               the               source               of               the               worst               airline               public               relations               ever,               World               Hum               cites               a               bizarre               report               from               Travolution               in               which               Ryan               Air's               spokesman               Steven               McNamara               referred               to               bloggers               as               lunatics               and               idiots.

An               Irish               blogger               wrote               about               a               possible               glitch               in               Ryan               Air's               online               booking               system               that               allows               a               user               opening               multiple               screens               to               see               flights               listed               at               zero               cost               although               they               could               not               actually               be               booked               at               that               cost.

Blog               commenters               representing               themselves               as               Ryan               Air               employees               criticized               the               blogger               as               "an               idiot,"               and               "a               liar,"               describing               the               blogger's               life               as               "pathetic,"
               According               to               Travolution,               when               asked               about               the               exchange,               Steven               McNamara               of               Ryan               Air               confirmed               that               Ryan               Air               staff               did               participate               in               the               blog               discussion,               adding:
               "It               is               Ryanair               policy               not               to               waste               time               and               energy               corresponding               with               idiot               bloggers               and               Ryanair               can               confirm               that               it               won't               be               happening               again.
               Lunatic               bloggers               can               have               the               blog               sphere               all               to               themselves               as               our               people               are               far               too               busy               driving               down               the               cost               of               air               travel."
               McNamara               must               have               overlooked               the               fact               that               the               "idiot,"               "lunatic"               blogger               was               a               potential               Ryan               Air               customer.

Then               again,               maybe               not.

This               bizarre               Ryan               Air               PR               that               qualified               as               the               worst               airline               PR               ever               is               not               the               first               time               McNamara               lashed               out.

On               Ryan               Air's               own               website,               McNamara               is               quoted               referring               to               the               Dublin               Airport               Authority               as               "the               incompetent               DAA,"               and               "this               incompetent               government               monopoly."               McNamara               also               referred               to               the               DAA               as               suffering               a               "complete               inability               to               keep               Ireland's               gateway               airport               open."
               Bizarre!

    About 'find cheapest hotel'|how can I find a cheap hotel room








    I               was               looking               for               a               cheaper               hotel               in               the               Minneapolis               area               for               around               $50.00               or               so.

    Not               expecting               a               top               of               the               line               hotel,               just               somewhere               to               rest               before               heading               to               our               destination.

    Online               I               found               a               few               options               but               all               were               outside               of               the               Minneapolis               metro               area.

    So               then               I               started               to               seek               out               the               closest               hotel               to               Minneapolis               that               I               could               find.

    That               is               how               we               ended               up               at               the               Super               8               hotel               in               Roseville,               Minnesota.

    The               website               had               a               toll               free               number               to               call               for               booking               a               room.

    I               called               about               two               weeks               prior               to               when               we               would               be               arriving               and               asked               for               their               best               rate.

    I               was               able               to               book               a               room               with               one               queen               size               bed               for               $54.99.

    My               credit               card               was               not               charged               until               a               couple               days               after               we               stayed               there.

    I               asked               for               a               receipt               upon               arriving               and               they               told               me               that               it               would               not               be               available               until               we               checked               out               the               next               morning.
                   The               Super               8               hotel               in               Roseville               was               easy               and               quick               to               get               to               from               downtown               Minneapolis,               around               twelve               miles               which               seemed               much               shorter.

    I               did               have               trouble               finding               the               service               road               leading               behind               the               shopping               center               where               the               hotel               is               located               as               the               road               sign               stated               a               different               name               on               it.

    A               large               parking               lot               provided               free               parking               with               easy               close               access               to               the               entrance.

    The               hotel               has               three               floors               in               all.

    Walking               in,               I               noticed               a               fireplace               that               was               unlit               and               a               computer               provided               free               of               charge               for               guests,               right               in               front               of               the               check-in               desk.

    The               only               elevator               was               to               my               right               as               I               entered.

    There               was               only               one               person               checking               guests               in               which               would               have               been               fine               as               we               were               the               only               guests               in               the               lobby,               but               she               took               a               phone               call               and               placed               that               person's               reservation               prior               to               checking               us               in.

    After               she               got               off               the               phone,               it               took               only               minutes               to               check-in.

    She               did               offer               an               upgrade               that               I               didn't               ask               for,               which               provided               us               a               room               with               two               queen               beds               in               it,               instead               of               the               hotel               room               with               one               queen               bed               that               I               had               reserved.

    I               guess               she               noticed               that               I               was               a               bit               ticked               off               that               she               would               intercept               a               phone               call               before               even               speaking               to               us,               the               guests               right               in               front               of               her.
                   This               is               an               older               hotel               which               has               not               been               remodeled               in               decades.

    The               smell               was               of               a               strange               air               freshener               and               cigar               smoke.

    The               carpets               lining               the               floors               were               old               and               in               need               of               change.

    Worst               of               all,               the               elevator               was               rickety               and               a               bit               scary               to               use.

    So               old               that               we               could               see               where               repairs               had               been               made               to               it               and               there               was               a               space               open               by               the               elevator               door               that               looked               dangerous.

    Finally               we               arrived               at               our               room,               slid               our               door               key               card               in               and               found               two               queen               beds               that               had               seen               better               days.

    The               beds               were               sunken               down               in               the               middle               and               did               not               look               comfortable               at               all.

    Sitting               atop               them               we               found               a               very               slim               padding               which               made               sleeping               hard               to               come               by.

    A               television               provided               about               a               dozen               channels               and               no               children's               channels               at               all.

    There               was               no               microwave               but               a               small               fridge               that               was               so               loud,               I               had               to               unplug               it               during               the               night.

    The               lighting               was               very               dim               and               if               we               had               wanted               to               read,               there               would               have               been               no               way               with               little               light!
                   Local               phone               calls               will               be               charged               to               room               so               we               only               used               a               cell               phone               for               calls.

    I               was               actually               afraid               to               call               the               front               desk               from               the               room               in               case               they               charged               for               that               too!

    They               do               provide               wake-up               calls               free               but               ours               never               came               the               next               morning.

    The               room               seemed               clean               and               bug-free.

    Our               window               overlooked               a               grassy               patch.

    The               bathroom               was               clean.

    Plenty               of               towels               and               washcloths               were               there               with               soap               for               bathing.

    A               hair               dryer               hung               on               the               wall               and               a               coffee               pot               was               placed               on               the               sink               in               the               bathroom.

    Coffee               was               provided               for               it.

    I               did               find               a               dirty               towel               hanging               on               the               back               of               the               bathroom               door               that               the               cleaning               staff               must               have               missed.
                   The               swimming               pool               is               inside               and               the               website               says               it               is               heated.

    It               was               cool               to               us.

    My               child's               lips               turned               blue               after               about               thirty               minutes               swimming               in               it.

    That               was               disappointing.

    The               whirlpool               by               the               pool               was               much               hotter               and               felt               wonderful.

    Here               they               have               pool               towels               in               the               pool               room               so               no               need               to               bring               towels               from               the               hotel               rooms.

    Our               hotel               room               had               felt               too               warm               entering               but               coming               back               from               the               pool,               we               found               it               had               cooled               off               considerably.

    There               were               no               guests               in               the               pool               or               whirlpool               while               we               were               using               it.

    I               was               told               that               on               the               weekends,               it               is               more               crowded.

    We               enjoyed               that               the               pool               started               at               three               feet               and               gradually               went               up               to               five               feet               in               depth.
                   The               free               breakfast               offered               was               more               than               we               expected               in               this               Super               8               low-cost               hotel,               right               outside               of               Minneapolis.

    There               were               waffle               pans               and               you               could               make               your               own               waffle               fresh               from               the               griddle.

    Toast               and               bagels               can               be               toasted               in               the               toasters.

    Three               different               cereals               including               Froot               Loops,               various               bagels,               various               muffins,               milk,               coffee,               powdered               doughnuts,               cranberry               and               orange               juice,               cream               cheese,               butter,               and               jelly               were               also               available.

    About               six               tables               I               think               were               in               the               breakfast               area               and               breakfast               was               served               from               5:00               am               to               10:00               am.

    Check-out               was               at               11:00               am.

    The               food               was               fresh               and               I               liked               that               they               had               a               large               selection               of               foods               for               anyone's               tastes.
                   I               did               check               my               Associated               Content               account               while               at               the               hotel               on               the               computer               provided               free               of               charge               for               guests.

    There               was               only               one               computer               and               a               sign               stating               it               was               not               for               playing               games.

    A               limit               of               time               guests               could               stay               on               the               computer               as               well.

    I               was               able               to               check               in               to               my               account               at               Associated               Content               but               it               took               a               long               time               to               do               it.

    The               computer               seemed               to               hang               up               and               took               forever               to               sign               in               and               sign               out.

    A               very               slow               internet               connection               for               this               computer               at               the               Super               8.

    I               used               it               very               little               and               regretted               even               trying               to               do               anything               with               it.
                   The               hotel               room's               walls               were               very               thin               and               we               could               hear               every               guest               going               up               and               down               the               hallway.

    That               was               fine               but               during               the               night,               the               real               racket               began.

    I               don't               know               if               these               guests               had               just               checked               in               at               midnight               or               if               that               was               just               when               the               party               began....but               the               sounds               kept               getting               louder               and               louder.

    Of               course               this               is               the               one               night               my               child               went               to               sleep               early,               she               was               tired               from               all               that               swimming               we               did               earlier.

    I               looked               out               of               the               door               to               see               if               it               was               the               hotel               staff               doing               all               the               loud               talking               in               the               hallway               (it               sounded               like               their               accents),               but               it               was               other               guests               of               the               hotel.

    So               I               called               the               front               desk               and               told               them               that               we               could               not               sleep               from               the               party               next               door.

    I               was               told               that               they               would               tell               the               other               guests               to               keep               it               down.

    This               helped               for               only               an               hour               and               then               the               party               really               took               off.

    The               guests               were               so               loud               and               right               outside               of               our               room               so               I               decided               to               tell               them               my               child               was               sleeping.

    I               opened               the               door               to               find               the               police               standing               there               with               the               guests.

    It               was               partly               the               police               who               were               talking               so               loud               so               I               proceeded               to               complain               about               the               noise               after               2:00               in               the               morning.

    The               police               said               they               were               handling               "a               situation".

    Again               I               called               the               front               desk               and               complained               that               this               was               getting               ridiculous.

    The               noise               continued               until               about               4:00               am.

    We               had               to               wake               up               at               8:00               am.

    The               next               morning               I               went               down               and               they               could               see               I               was               none               too               happy               as               I               requested               my               receipt.

    The               manager,               possibly               the               owner               of               the               hotel,               told               the               person               checking               us               out               to               take               off               $10.00               from               the               bill.

    I'm               sorry               but               that               did               not               help               one               bit               when               I               couldn't               sleep               the               night               before               and               had               to               travel               on               this               day!
                   Overall,               if               you               are               looking               for               a               cheap,               low-cost               hotel               near               downtown               Minneapolis               and               don't               want               to               pay               $100               or               more               a               night,               Super               8               is               an               option               in               Roseville.

    The               hotel               is               old               but               they               have               many               items               that               the               higher               priced               hotels               do               not.

    A               fridge               is               in               the               rooms               which               I               have               not               seen               in               other               higher               priced               hotels               in               Minneapolis.

    They               also               have               a               swimming               pool               and               whirlpool               which               was               very               nice.

    Parking               was               free               which               you               won't               find               at               many               Minneapolis               hotels               in               the               area,               you               will               pay               up               to               $12.00               at               some!

    But               I               did               not               feel               rested               after               staying               at               the               Super               8               hotel               in               Roseville               so               that               makes               me               rate               it               with               only               2               stars               and               I               am               being               generous               because               we               loved               the               pool               so               much.

    Don't               expect               Ritz-Carlton               quality               as               you               will               find               outdated               motif               and               old               carpeting               but               it               is               cheap               enough               for               this               area.
