About 'cheap flights and hotel'|Where Can I Find Cheap Flights
Undoubtedly you've seen them: lists of the best cities for vacations, the best beaches for families, the cheapest countries to visit. Travel best and worst lists are standard fare in the travel industry and every travel magazine and newspaper has its own take on the optimal vacation spots. Tucked away in the proverbial corners of all those travel best and worst lists are some bizarre compilations, including Dirtiest Hotels for 2009, Best and Worst Airports (for Sleeping), and Worst Airline Public Relations. Bizarre Travel List #1: Dirtiest Hotels List for 2009 Best and worst hotel lists apparently aren't bizarre enough for TripAdvisor. So,TripAdvisor compiles a Dirtiest Hotel list. For 2009, TripAdvisort awarded the dubious distinction of filthiest flophouse in the USA to the Hotel Carter in New York City. This cheap, Times Square hotel drew complaints of bedbugs, broken windows, a lobby bathroom with graffiti reading "If you want an STD, stay here," black mold... After checking-in, one guest reported finding blood on the bed and unflushed excrement in the toilet while another encountered a rat in the hall upon approaching her room and a collection of banana-eating blood suckers inside the room's waste basket. Bizarre Travel List #2: Best and Worst Airports (for Sleeping) 2008 If you think it's bizarre to spend the night in an airport, you haven't been keeping up with cost-conscious travelers. For 12 years running, the Guide to Sleeping in Airports hasn't found an airport to sleep in that outshines Singapore's Changi Airport. Changi boasts specially designed "snooze chairs" in napping lounges as well as showers, a swimming pool, and spa services. Some Guide readers suggest that sleeping at Changi is so nice that visitors to Singapore skip the hotel altogether and spend a few nights at the airport. Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport, particularly Terminal 1, was designated the worst airport for sleeping. De Gaulle was criticized for uncomfortable seating, overflowing toilets, arrogant staff, gun-toting gendarmes disinclined to let airport visitors sleep, pervasive smoke and - get this- homeless people! Travelers trying to skimp on their hotel costs by bunking in an airport have the nerve to criticize homeless locals who have nowhere else to go simply for being in the airport? Who's calling who arrogant here? Bizarre Travel List #3: Worst Airline Public Relations Ever This bizarre travel list contains but 1 entry. In designating Ryan Air the source of the worst airline public relations ever, World Hum cites a bizarre report from Travolution in which Ryan Air's spokesman Steven McNamara referred to bloggers as lunatics and idiots. An Irish blogger wrote about a possible glitch in Ryan Air's online booking system that allows a user opening multiple screens to see flights listed at zero cost although they could not actually be booked at that cost. Blog commenters representing themselves as Ryan Air employees criticized the blogger as "an idiot," and "a liar," describing the blogger's life as "pathetic," According to Travolution, when asked about the exchange, Steven McNamara of Ryan Air confirmed that Ryan Air staff did participate in the blog discussion, adding: "It is Ryanair policy not to waste time and energy corresponding with idiot bloggers and Ryanair can confirm that it won't be happening again. Lunatic bloggers can have the blog sphere all to themselves as our people are far too busy driving down the cost of air travel." McNamara must have overlooked the fact that the "idiot," "lunatic" blogger was a potential Ryan Air customer. Then again, maybe not. This bizarre Ryan Air PR that qualified as the worst airline PR ever is not the first time McNamara lashed out. On Ryan Air's own website, McNamara is quoted referring to the Dublin Airport Authority as "the incompetent DAA," and "this incompetent government monopoly." McNamara also referred to the DAA as suffering a "complete inability to keep Ireland's gateway airport open." Bizarre!
