About 'ice hotel'|Ice Hotel in Alaska? - What's Your Question?
The W Hotel Times Square is an exquisite hotel. W Hotels worldwide is a chain of hotels by Starwood Preferred Guest Worldwide. The W Hotels are the upper echelon of Starwood's hotel offerings, and there are many locations worldwide. The W Hotel Times Square is one of five in New York City, and is the best location in my opinion. From this hotel, you are close enough to see the ball drop from select windows on New Year's Eve. During other times of year, this Times Square location is right in the middle of all the action, and within walking distance to many attractions and restaurants. For instance, the hotel is in the heart of the theater district and close to the mtv store. Tips for Booking The W Hotel Times Square can be booked from the website, www.whotels.com , or by calling directly 1-877-WHOTELS. I found it most useful to research the site first to find special offers, and then to call and make my booking directly. The first thing you will want to do is become a Starwood Preferred Guest. Once you do this, you will be able to get a discount for any time you stay at a W Hotel, the preferred guest rate. You will also accummulate points towards a free night stay in one of the Starwood Hotels. For each dollar you spend, you get a point. Then, you redeem points for a free stay. The W Hotels are one of the most costly pointwise, but it's worth it! Once you have joined as a Starwood Preferred Guest, go to the website for W Hotels, and to the page for the W Times Square. You will see listed any special offers that might be going on. For instance, sometimes they feature staying two or three nights and getting a free night's stay, or a package deal that includes dinner or cocktails, or some type of event. Check for special offers online, but also ask when you call to book. On the W website, you can also check and see if there is availability and an idea of cost for the time you wish to visit the hotel. There are six different options for choice of room, depending on your budget and the level of Wowability you want. The basic room is the wonderful room, which is plenty wonderful! With this room, you will end up on a lower floor, and will have a spectacular room. As you move up in price, you get a better view, meaning you get on a higher floor, and get a view of times square, etc. The next level is a spectacular room, then fabulous, a cool corner room, a fantastic suite, and the extreme wow suite. The website shows the different specific amenities for each level of "Wow." One interesting tidbit of information is that W Hotels, including Times Square, allow dogs to stay in the rooms. They even offer certain treats you can purchase for your dog, including a dog robe! After looking around online, then call and make the reservation. By calling, you can ask if there is any offer or discount available which you didn't see online, or may have missed. Be sure to ask for the Starwood Preferred Guest discount. A final piece of advice in booking this hotel applies for any hotel. If you go through a website such as travelocity or orbitz or hotels.com, you have to prepay by credit card for the booking. Then, if you cancel, you might have to pay a fee such as $25. If you book directly through the hotel, such as the website or by calling, your credit card is authorized but not charged until the day of your stay. With W hotels, if you cancel more than 24 hours in advance of 4 pm the day of check in, you can avoid anything ever being charged to your credit card. What W Hotel Times Square Has to Offer This is not your run of the mill New York hotel. I have many times stayed in New York, and have found that even some costly places can be tiny rooms where you have to step over the bed just to get to the bathroom. The W hotel is different- as soon as you pull up in front of the hotel, you feel a sense of luxury and accommodation. So, you arrive in front of the hotel, with your car and your luggage in the trunk. There are people waiting for you to take your luggage and park your car. As for using the car service at the hotel, it is costly. It is about $40 per night, but can be more if you have an SUV, etc. You may find cheaper parking in a garage nearby, but then you don't have the ease of having the hotel pull the car right up to the curb for you on checkout. Once your car is parked, someone will take you and your luggage up to the seventh floor for check-in. Then, your luggage will be taken to your room once you check in. How are the rooms? We stayed in a spectacular room. This meant we were on the 42nd floor. The wonderful rooms, a small amount less expensive, were generally on floors up to the 30th floor. In the spectacular rooms, there is a great view of the new york city streets below. We requested a room with a view, and had a view of Broadway. We could see the M&M sign below us as well. The room was superb. The minute we walked in we were transformed into a different mood, of peacefulness and stylish innovation. Our room had a mini-bar with wines and miniature alcohol, juices and bottles of water, sodas, and some snacks. The snacks included chocolate and chips, etc. You could also purchase an umbrella or robe from a drawer under the mini-bar. Be careful- make sure you aren't charged for something you didn't eat or take. We were accidentally charged for an umbrella, and I had to call to have this removed from our bill! There were many mirrors in the room, and a cd was playing on the cd player. We quite enjoyed how the cd set the mood for a quiet, romantic evening. (The cd player can be turned off, or loaded with your own songs, if you'd like.) There is a huge plasma tv, a glass-enclosed shower, and floating sink. There is also a floating glass table that is like a desk with stationery. The table/desk is up against the wall, with one chair. The one improvement that I would recommend for the rooms is to have a table that two people can use. We ordered room service and there was only one chair. Also, the table is against the wall and long, so we would have had to sit beside each other to eat instead of across from each other. If we had more time, we would have requested an extra chair, and I am quite sure they would have provided one. Then, we could have used the table provided by room service. It's just something to think about. Room service is available, and the menu is great! We ordered breakfast. The menu is able to be accessed from the television! When ordering breakfast, there are some specials available so that you don't have to order each item a la carte. The breakfast came in a timely manner, in about a half an hour. The hotel also has other useful amenities. The seventh floor, where you check in, has a lounge area and bar area. There is a gift shop as well, with unique New York City gifts. It is pricey, however. There are women's pants there, for instance, for $200. On the ground level, there is a restaurant called the Blue Fin. I would highly recommend this restaurant. The ambience is surreal with a modern floating staircase. The food was a delicacy. I ordered filet mignon, medium well. I have found, even in the best restaurants, that it is hard to cook a thick cut of filet mignon perfectly medium well. However, I was pleased that my steak was cooked to perfection, and had an unforgettable flavor! The dessert was out of this world! It was "created" by the chefs. The best thing about it was the raspberry sorbet, which was smooth and creamy to perfection. The bill for two people including a good tip was about $230 for appetizer, salad, two main courses, and dessert. There is a bar underneath the hotel called the Whiskey. This was the place to be on Saturday night! The feel is hip-hop popular dance music, and most people are dressed up but not formal. There are many different little cozy areas to sit and chat, and a vip area for parties at one end of the club. Plenty of room is available for dancing, and many were dancing that night! You must exit the hotel to reach the Whiskey, and walk outside to the door down to the club. But, it's not far enough to need a coat- so you can still leave everything in your room. You also get free admission being a guest of the hotel. What's Going on Around Town? The Broadway theatre district is right around the corner. This means you can walk from the hotel to a show. Times Square is right there, with the mtv store, and many other popular stores. Within walking distance also is the Empire State Building- about a mile south, and Central Park, about a mile north. We walked to Rockefeller Center, where we checked out iceskating. It cost about $18 per person including skate rental for 1.5 hours. If you ever want to ice skate, the sessions start about every two hours and last for 1.5 hours, up until about midnight each night. We also went to eat in the Rockefeller Center at the Rainbow Room. This would have been nice, but we couldn't get served dinner because we missed the last sitting. It was about 10 pm on a Saturday night- so get there early. We did manage to sit at the bar and have a $7 apple martini. Recommendation Stay at this hotel! Don't miss the incredible experience. The W Hotel Times Square offers every modern accommodation you could wish for and then some. Everyone is friendly and helpful, including the doormen when asking for directions, and the amenities are worth the price. The location can't be beat! As a result of staying in this hotel, we have decided to stay in W hotels every time we take a trip in the future- I was that impressed. Other than the bill being having some errors, which were fixed when a call was placed, this was an impeccable experience. Transform yourself into a world of modern luxury! |
